I am a BACP senior accredited counsellor, psychotherapist and an EMDR practitioner.
I am an experienced NHS counsellor and manage a GP counselling service. I have also worked in education for over 30 years, initially as a teacher and lecturer, and later as a counsellor and counselling trainer. I set up a specialised counselling service for students with dyslexia. I have also worked with people affected by ADHD and Asperger's / ASD.
I use an Integrative approach, adjusting my way of working to you and your needs from moment to moment. The development of a good working relationship is my first priority. This may mean simply listening and bearing witness. It may involve making connections between the past and the present. I'm also trained in the use of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a remarkably effective way of helping to process and resolve past experiences, from major trauma to a range of recurring problems that are rooted in the past - abuse, bullying, low self-esteem, losses, difficult family situations etc. I may suggest using this at different times during the therapy.
I may also draw on my training in mindfulness, based on the ancient practice of meditation. Mindfulness can help with depression, anxiety, stress, intrusive thoughts and overwhelming feelings, thus enabling you to find some inner peace.
